“Burn down your cities and leave our farms and your cities will spring up again, as if by magic. But destroy our farms and grass will grow in the streets of every city in the country.” – William Jennings Bryan
Imagine waking up each day with one thing on your mind – food. Where will your next meal come from?
Agriculture is our society’s foundation. It provides food and fiber to each of us. Without food, no one would survive. Agriculture is absolutely essential to the success of our society and our economy.
Don’t agree? As a whole, U.S. citizens spend the lowest percentage of their total income on food. The hard work of our family farmers has created greater opportunity for our country. Because we don’t worry about our next meal, we have the freedom to pursue challenging education, successful careers, innovative technology and much more.
It’s simple: destroy America’s agriculture and destroy the country.
Today, America’s farmers and ranchers face constant attacks from anti-agriculture groups, federal regulations and laws, all because of a lack of knowledge and understanding.
Most Oklahomans, including those who make decisions for our state, are four to five generations removed from the farm. Without understanding the basic practices of our family farms, legislators can often create regulations and laws that hinder the abundance and affordability of our nation’s food supply.
A service of Oklahoma Farm Bureau, OKAgPolicy seeks to educate and inform Oklahomans of the importance of agriculture and how laws and regulations affect it. Follow along as we work to preserve the prosperity of our nation through agricultural policy.
